Purpose - The H Wayne Bowman Astonishing Expectations Scholarship awards scholarships to graduating high school students in Prince William County in order to pursue a college education through the Northern Virginia Community College.
Criteria - The students eligible for assistance must be graduating high school seniors who reside in Prince William County, have been diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum, and intend to continue their education at Northern Virginia Community College. Consideration will be given to academic achievement and teacher recommendations. Students should submit a scholarship application on the form provided on the Astonishing Expectations Foundation website.
Guidelines - Scholarships will be awarded on an annual basis. Funds will be disbursed directly to the college in August and January . A stipend for books will be paid directly to the student prior to start of classes. Students must continue to attend class and maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or above.
Amount - Each scholarship will be awarded based on the number of college credits for which the student is enrolled. Total scholarship awarded is not to exceed $2800 per semester for tuition. An additional $50 per class will be awarded as a book stipend.
Deadline: Applications will be published to the foundation’s website each year in January. Completed applications must be received by June 15th each year. Announcement of selected scholarship recipients will be made by July 1st of each year.
Renewal process: Scholarships are renewable for one subsequent school year.
